Vocational Assessment
The purpose of Vocational Assessment is to help an individual select appropriate and realistic occupational goals, and to identify skills. By assessing a person's basic skills, occupational interests & aptitudes, work attitudes, temperaments and other data, the compiled information can be used to assist the individual in achieving his/her training and employment goals.
The actual Assessment is broken down into sections. Each section is assessed and timed separately, then related scores are combined, giving an "overview" of that area.
State-of-the-art equipment is used to accurately measure various aspects of an individual's manual dexterity, spatial aptitude, and fine motor skills, as well as other areas.
The Manual Dexterity Unit is one of the Assessment tools. An individual is timed on the ability to move the hands skillfully and easily. A high score in this part of the assessment shows mechanical ability, plus the ability to manipulate parts and tools.
The Spatial Aptitude Unit measures the ability to think visually in geometric forms. A high score on this assessment shows an aptitude for the spatial problem-solving involved in such occupations as graphic arts, surveying and drafting.
The Eye-Hand-Foot Coordination Unit measures the ability to coordinate the movement of hands and feet in relation to visual cues. A high score in this area indicates an aptitude for jobs in which such coordination is important: heavy equipment operation, truck driving, and some production operation activities.

Q & A
- Why is assessment important?
- Assessment can discover what skills need to be improved as well as previously unknown strengths which may support a variety of occupational choices.
- What do these activities measure?
- Our assessment systems provides a reliable measurement to allow participants to make informed jog/career decisions. We identify the participant's skills, aptitudes, work interests, work experience, the setting in which they would like to work, their understanding of the requirements for successful employment, and the best learning environment to use when training for a job.
- What if I never do well on tests?
- We believe an assessment becomes less threatening when seen as a part of the information gathering process that will enable a person to accurately define their employment goals. None of the assessments are a pass/fail situation.
- Our job is to assist people in making an informed decision regarding their employment future. We strive to provide a setting that will allow everyone to do their best. Modifications can be made (upon request) to meet individual needs.
